National Bioethics Conference 6 - 2017

Welcome from the Organising Committee

The Organising Committee takes great pleasure in inviting you all to the 6th National Bioethics Conference.

The conference will be held at YASHADA, in Pune, Maharashtra. Pune is a city teeming with multidisciplinary educational institutions, proud of its vibrant culture of performing arts, and the hub of a strong civil society movement. Home to interesting heritage sites, it is blessed with a year-round temperate climate. January is the best time to be in Pune to enjoy its warm sunshine and cool breezes.

We believe that bioethics is indispensible in generating meaningful dialogue and building bridges between thought-leaders, practitioners from various disciplines including medicine and healthcare, policy-makers and most importantly the public at large, towards working to achieve accessible and quality healthcare. From the first National Bioethics Conference in 2005 in Mumbai, to the fifth NBC in Bangalore in 2014, the field of bioethics has evolved considerably and developed significant learning on issues that touch us all – ethics, equity and justice in healthcare, medical technologies, integrity in public health and regulatory challenges in health research.

In 2016, we continue our bioethical journey here in Pune... We sincerely hope that you will join us to bring your own voice into multidisciplinary conversations on the theme of 'Healing and Dying with Dignity: Ethical issues in palliative care, end-of-life care and euthanasia'. Needless to mention that the Sixth National Bioethics Conference is also open, as has always been the case, for debates and conversations on other wide ranging themes from the broader discipline of bioethics.

We are looking forward to seeing you all at the conference as co-travellers on a collective bioethical journey.
